A young woman's friend dies accidentally, but she doesn't cry. She finds a bag full of money and is more affected by the joy of the money than she is weighed down by the grief of her deceased friend. In dreams, she is haunted by her deceased friend who questions her lack of tears.
The film depicts the last hours in the life of great Danish King Christian IV, told exclusively from a horse carriage. The focal point is Christian's tempestuous relationship to his second wife, Kirsten Munk, involving accusations of infidelity and attempted murder.

The men in the village are dying one by one. The disease is spreading, and so is the paranoia.
