In this surreal documentary film, the producer, writer and artist discusses a selection of objects related to her work with close friends and collaborators.

"A challenging soundtrack by English that combines swooping drones with high-pitched electronic tones, feedback style ringing, and buzzes of radio noises, all create an unsettling accompaniment to Northey’s visual manipulations. Slow moving shapes, abstracted forms rendered as bursts of coloured static, memories of signals lost in the ether. When everything has been destroyed, when the sun transforms into a super nova and the solar system is annihilated, all that will remain are the broadcasts, getting increasingly weaker as they flow further into the universe, joining the background static. Filmed entirely on location in Australia, Double Phase follows a discrete visual chronology captured by Takashi Makino. It considers how the complexity of ’natural world’ continues to be reductively framed within contemporary society. Pushing back against the simplistic and monocular sensing of the world, Makino responds with an intensely affective projection of lived experience. Moving far beyond the capacity of lived day to day experience, the film collides image after image into a cascade of almost-cosmic complexity. A reminder that we must always be reaching out and extending ourselves into the world that emerges before us. (Asia TOPA 2020)

Четырнадцатилетний камбоджиец Чакра вынужден работать вместе со своей большой семьей на рисовых полях. Ему не нравится работа, тяжелая жизнь и постоянные препирательства с отцом. Он сбегает из дома, но попадает в руки торговцев людьми. Так Чакра оказывается в Таиланде, где его заставляют трудиться на рыбацкой лодке. Здесь условия еще более невыносимые: прав у мальчика нет, денег не платят. Чакра мечтает сбежать от жестоких рабовладельцев домой.

Clipson, like some reckless traveller driven by a Mabusian force, takes us on a journey, hypnotically guiding us through a realm of dreams that seems to consist solely of light, shapes and colours. Shot on and screened from film. Soundtrack by sound artist and composer Lawrence English.
