In this intellectual drama, Ras (Eli Wallach) is a ruler or dictator who, somewhat like the Biblical King David, covets another man's wife as his own. Unlike David, however, Ras wants to humiliate Marcello (Nino Manfredi), a dedicated musician whose life he has already ruined. He forces Marcello to seek an annulment to his marriage through the Vatican.

A young man comes out of a reform school properly reformed, but life outside will bring him to the underworld again. His second reform will be short-lived.

Rico is a not too successful screen-player. He is also a repressed sex addict. His life changes when he starts to talk to his own penis, which incredibly answers him! All his relationships and views about reality are seriously impacted by his new "friend", his penis! Andrea, the only son of a rich publisher, is a neurotic young man obsessed by his mother. He is dominated by uncontrollable impulses and suicidal fantasies, while his regressive behaviour makes him lonely and frustrated. Incapable of having normal sexual relationships, he spies on his stepmother's adulterous affairs and is obsessed by Carol, a young American girl he secretly films (even when she's making love with her boyfriend), and whom he clumsily courts. Finally, Andrea wins Carol over but is still tormented by the fear of losing his own private world of memories and macabre games...

Following the death of her grandfather, Valentina settles with her husband Pierre, a sculptor, in the old family villa which she partly inherited (half of it belongs to her cousin Marta, who already resides there). Co-habitation proves to be awkward: Valentina is unscrupulous and uninhibited, while Marta is austere and virtuous - at least, on the surface. In fact, when Valentina suddenly dies, the woman initiates a seduction which eventually coaxes Pierre into her arms. The cosy situation soon changes when a police officer turns up to investigate Valentina's death...
