Подросток Пол живет в изоляции от мира. У него гипертрихоз (заболевание, проявляющееся в избыточном росте волос, не свойственном данному участку кожи), и каждый выход из дома для него стресс. Окрестные подростки мучают его, люди боятся. Отец делает все возможное, чтобы облегчить жизнь сына, но обычные подростковые проблемы поиска себя и становления как личности у него усугубляются проблемами со здоровьем и внешностью. В свой день рождения Пол получает письмо с информацией о своей давно пропавшей матери и сбегает из дома, чтобы найти ее.
