Кошмар зомби, начавшийся в фильме «Ночь живых мертвецов», продолжается. Спасшиеся от ужаса мертвых на вертолете, четверо путешественников вынуждены приземлиться на крышу супермаркета. Там они находят пищу, приют и неприятности. Многоэтажный магазин сверху донизу забит глупыми ходячими трупами. Развлекая себя отстрелом мертвецов, люди и не подозревают, что всего через несколько часов один из них станет тем, кого они так легко убивают — плотоядным зомби, а чуть позже в магазин нагрянет банда отморозков, не делающая различия между живым и мертвым, единственным желанием которых является жажда наживы и насилия.
