However as soon as he's crossed the border, he reports to the police. He claims his order was to kidnap someone, but he doesn't know who yet. He's forced to continue feignedly. However the east agents don't really trust him and play a double game...

Captain Ebbs is an older, experienced seaman who has, however, only sailed on freighters. While his current old barge, the Martin Luther, has to go into the shipyard for an overhaul, the shipping company gives him command of the elegant cruise ship Julia to temporarily replace a colleague who has fallen ill. The rough Ebbs finds his way into his new job only with difficulty and initially puts his foot in his social mouth.

Ночью на площади священник Малахиас молит Бога, чтобы тот убрал ночной бар подальше от церкви. Бог исполняет просьбу Малахиаса, и бар по воздуху переносится на пустынный остров. На месте бара открывается торговля святой водой, сосисками, изображениями Малахиаса. Печать, радио и телевидение используют это «чудо» и дурачат наивных верующих. А торговцы и спекулянты зарабатывают на этом большие деньги. В баре богатые бездельники и рыцари наживы устраивают безобразные оргии. Увидев все это, Малахиас умоляет Бога сделать «чудо» несостоявшимся. И бар в своем первоначальном виде оказывается на прежнем месте.

A music comedy directed by Dietrich Haugk based on the play by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing.

The film depicts the first month of 1945 when the Russian Red Army broke into the eastern part of Germany and forced millions of civilians to flee in the coldest of winter. While the Russians invaded Ostpreussen hundred of thousands of civilians were evacuated by ships. Gotenhafen was the last open port and ships left the town almost by the minute, overloaded by refugees. One of the last ships to leave Gotenhafen was the 'Wilhelm Gustloff', a former 'Kraft durch Freude' pleasure cruiser designed for 1000 passengers. Until today it is unknown how many people were on board but it is said to be around 10.000. The ship sunk without a trace and only a handful of people survived this hellish nightmare.

The plot revolves around a gang of criminals, mostly former guards of Auschwitz, who print and distribute counterfeit U.S. currency in Berlin after World War II.
