When Scientists discover Sun Spores, an alien plague that instills a hatred so overwhelming that anyone infected won't stop until everything in their path is destroyed. Soon, the scientists decide that it's time to rid the Earth of the Transformers and plan to use Optimus Prime's lifeless body to lure every Transformer to their lab and infect them with the Sun Spores. When the Sun Spores outbreak rages out of control, the universe's only hope is to revive Optimus Prime. Since his return as Autobot leader, Optimus Prime has had visions of an ominous event. Ravenscroft is so powerful he can impose his will onto county sheriff's offices and get the group arrested. They are saved by Close McCall and his souped-up stunt car War Lord, so he joins the team after initial resistance the first time he tried.

However, Shando spends his time daydreaming and instead of earning his kabump, he acquires a fake one. He soon learns that true success comes only with hard work and honesty.

Framing the live-action storyline are a few animated cartoon sequences involving the efforts of a producer to sell his concept to an apelike movie mogul. This device works as effectively here as it did thirty years earlier in W.C. Fields' Never Give a Sucker an Even Break.
