The sun is reflected in an Andalusian thermo-solar power plant whose architecture reminds us of ancient alchemical engravings, like a sacred temple of the 21st century. From its radiance come the voices of an antimatter physicist and an ecofeminist evoking their reflections on collapse, time and energy.

Bab Sebta is built of a series of reconstructions of diverse situations observed in Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in the North of Morocco. A place where manufactured goods are entering the state exempt of taxes, to be sold at a discount prices in the cities of northern Morocco. Every day, thousands of people engage in cross-border exchanges of all kinds, more or less legal. Based on situations witnessed while crossing the border, this experimental video reconstructs the mise-en-scène of this unique place, involving real smugglers and police reports on trafficking, tricks and occasional tragedies.

They do accounting, handle human-resources matters and run sales for a car dealership. They answer the phone, peck at their keyboards, organize meetings and take lunch breaks. They learn to type faster, speak better, project self-confidence. With their pay, they buy fancy vacations or giant pythons. What’s going on in this (almost) ordinary company? In this drily funny short, Paul Heintz slowly sows doubts, highlighting the absurdity of corporate work. To what extent can fiction contaminate reality? Without editorializing, the artist reveals the modern working world for the strange carnival ride that it is.
