Cyril Dadák (Václav Postránecký), a TV reporter falls in love at first sight with a young engineer Milena (Jaroslava Obermaierová) while he makes a reportage in a chemical factory. Milena has been dating for several years with a test driver Pavel (Rudolf Jelínek), however when she meets Cyril she feels that he might be the Mr Right. She accepts Cyril's invitation for a date and she spends a night with him. In the morning she finds in her flat Pavel. She wants to explain to him everything but Pavel makes coffee with a smile and gives her back the keys from the flat.

Young script-writer Frantisek (Petr Cepek) is hired to write a film script based on the successful novel Looking Back. He meets with the novel's female author, a University professor and writer named Olga Machová (Jirina Trebická), approximately ten-years-older than him. In the beginning, they do not understand each other at all. Frantisek is a skeptic experiencing a moral crisis, unsatisfied with both his work and his private life - he lives separated from his wife and has no deeper feelings for his numerous lovers. He even gets drunk from time to time and breaks the public peace. Olga is lonesome, too, but considers her life fulfilled.
It is 5 May 1945 and the uprising against the hated German occupiers has broken out in Prague. The Czech guards open the gate of the Pankrác prison to allow the prisoners to escape en masse. Many of them are shot dead by the German guards but young Ruda (Jaromír Hanzlík) manages to run away. He is taken care of by one of the Prague fighters, concierge Kytka. Kytka hides him in the flat of the house's owner where only the young maid Karla (Jana Brejchová) is left, ordering her to take care of Ruda.

Руженка только что блестяще защитила новейший препарат по корекции сновидений, а Индрих озабочен созданием устройства для поднятий тяжелых грузов, идею которого он случайно находит в комиксе с очаровательной блондинкой Джесси на обложке. Мысли о гравитационной перчатке, описанной в комиксе, и о её обладательнице Джесси, не покидают его и во сне. Заметив это, супруга подключает к нему прибор трансляции снов, и, обнаружив на экране ту самую блондинку, решает применить на муже новоиспечённый препарат… Однако, как обнаружилось, у него есть побочный эфект — материализация сновидений.. Далее ожившие герои и злодеи комиксов со всеми своими сверхспособностями будоражат спокойную и размеренную Прагу.

Нечем уравновесить контингент, собранный сплошь из работниц обувной фабрики. Но ее директор - малый не промах: благодаря его связям в городок прибывает гарнизон солдат-запасников. Вместо лысеющего резервиста ей удается подцепить музыканта из Праги. Он и не подозревает, что мимолетная интрижка обернется нежданной гостьей на пороге столичной квартиры… Это образцовый фильм чешской новой волны, хорошо усвоившей уроки французского - натурные съемки, непрофессиональные актеры, "непреднамеренная" камера.
