Бездетная пара берет к себе в дом полено, своей формой отдаленно напоминающее маленького человечка. Полено оживает и превращается в самого настоящего ребенка. Супруги не могут поверить своему счастью, однако вскоре маленькая девочка, пожирающая все, что попадается ей на глаза, приводит их в отчаяние.

Проснувшись обычным будничным утром, законопослушный работник банка, господин К. обнаруживает в своих апартаментах двух незнакомцев, которые сообщают ему о том, что он арестован и находится под следствием. От чьего имени выступают эти люди и какова статья обвинения, узнать не удается. Тем не менее, все вокруг, будто сговорившись, подтверждают реальность случившегося...

Зима 1942 года. Шестая армия вермахта сражается в разрушенном до основания Сталинграде. Взвод элитных немецких солдат, в первой же битве потерявший больше половины личного состава, ведет отчаянную борьбу за выживание. Свист пуль и рев «катюш», голод и холод доводят их до грани безумия. Уже почти ничего не удерживает солдат на тонкой линии между жизнью и смертью. После всего, что они видели, после утраты всех идеалов призыв фюрера «стоять до конца» приобретает для них совсем другое, гораздо более страшное значение…

Returning home to Prague, the magician Pasparte, an owner of a circus caravan, meets his dying colleague who entrusts his beautiful daughter Aloisie to his care. In Prague they all take up their lodgings at the house At Blue Fish in which they intend to arrange the programs. The firm is owned by widow Evzenie with whom Pasparte shares flat and bed. Evzenie is jealous of Aloisie therefore Pasparte sends Aloisie as a housewife to the single man Jakub Kolenatý who earns his living by photographing and wants to record the revived pictures of Prague. Pasparte wants to found in Prague the first permanent Czech movie theatre in which there would be projected also the original Czech films.

A musical comedy about a date between boy and girl which started badly but continued very unexpectedly...

Marta (Jana Brejchová) and Viktor (Vlastimil Brodský) celebrate the tenth anniversary of their wedding half-heartedly. They both think they don't suit together. While visiting Marta's friend Alena (Iva Janzurová), who just got married for the third time, they learn an interesting thing. It was a computer which selected a husband for Alena and she claims she is happy. The couple gets off after certain hesitation to a cybernetic institute, where the computer tells them that living together is a risk for them. At the same time the computer selects them ideal partners - Mrs Tuchlová, a doctor for Viktor, and Petr Karát, a music composer for Marta. By a coincidence Viktor and Marta meet wrong people.

Petr Rynes (Svatopluk Matyás) is celebrating his forty-fifth birthday in the company of his friends. He is happy with his wife, and his abilities at work have been rewarded with the medal For Outstanding Work. But a few short seconds are enough to change his life when he makes the ill-judged decision to take his car to bring a friend's wife to the celebration, and hits a pedestrian on the way. He has of course been drinking at the party and is consequently sentenced to sixteen months in prison. Being in jail is not an easy thing for a honorable communist. He soon gets into conflict with several violent inmates, who think they can break his spirit by violence.

When a comet passes the Earth very closely, it pulls a small part of North Africa, and a small swathe of humanity, along with it.

At the funeral of his schoolmate, the nearly-fifty-year old architect Jirí Mánek (Václav Voska) meets his former close acquaintance - physician Jarmila (Blanka Bohdanová). They both are still single. Jarmila has recently returned to Prague after years of work on the frontier. Jirí leaves for a business trip. As a conservationist, he is to grant permission for an adaptation of a Baroque château to office spaces. On the road, a pretty young hitchhiker named Eva (Ida Rapaicová) stops him. Eva is Slovak and her spontaneous behavior enchants Jirí. He thus does not mind making a short detour and takes Eva all the way to the luxurious cottage of her parents. A romance develops between the two people, so different in age and temperament.
