Amidst the election rivalry of two villages for the village head post, Cigugur and Cijulang, a troupe of Ronggeng artists, with its prima donna, Sari, arrives at the sub-district center for their regular performance. Sari and Dadang, the son of the Village Elder of Cijulang, are in love with each other. Dadang is also running as a candidate in the village head elections. But Ohim, the son of the Cigugur Village Elder, is also madly in love with Sari. He gets even more daring after a humiliating incident when he tries to touch Sari’s hair bun on the ronggeng stage. The touching of the hair bun is one of the rituals in the traditional art of Ronggeng. Dadang’s father is angered by his son’s relationship with Sari, since it could jeopardize his candidacy as the head of the village.

This war drama finds a group of rebels grappling with their imprisonment while in the custody of Dutch colonialists.With several of their comrades recently executed, the soldiers are left to contemplate their fates – and plan a possible escape – as the threat of their impending mortality closes in.

Firman inherits a piece of land and a hut from his late father. He works hard by selling fruits, to fulfil his father’s dream, of ensuring that his little brother, Agus, finishes his university education. Agus falls in love with Isma, a daughter of a middle-class tailor, Mrs. Slamet. Mrs. Slamet is a distant relative of Mrs. Dirham; a rich widow, who wants her son, John, to marry Isma. But Isma falls for Agus and John often disparages Agus, which infuriates Isma more and more. Finally Mrs. Slamet gives in and accepts Agus’ proposal, and even John is willing to pay the marriage expenses.

Accused of smuggling expensive goods, Prapti goes to jail while she is pregnant. Her husband, Johan Sitompul, breaks down and goes to a mental hospital. Both families don't agree with the marriage. As a result, Prapti does not return to her parent’s house when she is released from jail. One day, her son, Agus, who was born in prison, asks about his father after hearing negative remarks from their landlady, Mak Sanip. Mak Sanip does not like the fact that her son, Sanip, likes Prapti. Since Agus does not get an answer, he starts looking with the help of his friend’s grandfather.

The story begins with a commotion in court during the trial session of a wild girl who was involved with pornographic photos when a former nurse appeared to reveal that the girl was the daughter of a famous tycoon in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the rich man's daughter who had just gotten married was the biological child of the wild girl's mother, who was a prostitute. The two were exchanged when their newborns were in the hospital. This melodrama is the first film in the Malaysia-Indonesia joint venture 'Bayi' Trilogy, before BAYI TABUNG (1988) and DIA BUKAN BAYIKU (1988). It is the first film under a special project, FILEM USAHASAMA MALAYSIA-INDONESIA initiative of FINAS (Malaysia) and P. T. Perfin (Indonesia) which started in the mid-1980s to the early 1990s-an effort that has produced a number of films of various genres. This project was born out of the failure of the Film Exchange Scheme project between FINAS and P. T. Perfin to screen Malaysian films in Indonesia.
