When Aziza finally shares a recurring dream, it’s what she leaves unsaid that reveals her fractured sense of self. Aziza’s dream – in which she must sing a song – takes her on a journey through the post-industrial hills of the American Rust Belt, the eternal fields of Egypt, and the most repressed parts of her mind.

A group of teenagers spend their summer working in the fig harvest in rural northwest Tunisia. Melek and her friends work in the orchards during the summer to pay for their studies, prepare for their weddings or help their families. Between the fig trees, under the gaze of older workers and young men, they reveal and project themselves, on the threshold of an adult life. The fig orchard becomes a real theater of emotions, where their relationships with work, love, friendship and the land are played out.

Marked each year by celebrations, Israel’s Independence Day coincides with the commemoration of Al-Nakba (the Catastrophe) — the day Palestinians memorialize their dispossession and displacement. For Tamer (Mahmoud Bakri, a member of the acting dynasty begun by veteran Palestinian performer Mohammad Bakri) and his high-school friends — Safwat (Mohammed Abd El Rahman), Shekel (Mohammad Karaki), and Rida (Ahmed Zaghmouri) — the social and psychological dissonance of being Palestinian in Israel is a daily struggle that is only heightened in the lead-up to Nakba Day.
