Marian Friedmann

The main character is a bookkeeper, 40, who lives a quiet, uninteresting life with her husband and son of school age. She realizes that soon she won't be needed much at home as the boy grows up and the relationship with her husband crumbles. It's only when an embezzlement is discovered at the office and she stands up to her management, that she realizes life has more to offer. She meets a well-off former classmate, married to an American. Then she meets Jacek and starts contemplating possibilities of a new start. She discovers love for the first time, but turns to old ways rather than to break loose.

The main character has quit school, makes a living by taking pictures. He seduces a nurse who treated his head wound which he earned in a fight. They witness a hit-and-run driver killing a little girl on a sled. He builds up an elaborate trap by putting a doll dressed as a child down the hill in the path of a car. The man hits it and thinking that he hit a child - runs. Marek takes pictures of him and tries to blackmail him to use his car for a week. He wants to use the car to win back the nurse, who could not cope with his humors...

Действие фильма происходит в западной Польше, на землях, которые долгие годы оккупировала Германия, а после войны они были возвращены польскому народу. Сюда приезжают переселенцы из других районов страны. Хотя польское правительство делает все, чтобы помочь этим людям, но положение осложняется тем, что спрятавшиеся в лесах банды польских фашистов всячески мешают организации новой жизни. Поэтому для капитана Совинського и его батальона война еще не окончена, а изменилась только ее форма и методы.
