Desire Will Set You Free is a feature film that explores life in contemporary Berlin with an often critical and sometimes humorous eye. Based on a true story, the plot follows the relationship of an American writer of Israeli/Palestinian descent and a Russian aspiring artist working as a hustler, offering access to the city's vibrant queer and underground scenes while examining the differences between expatriate and refugee life. Our characters travel through Berlin's layered history and unique subcultural landscape; on their adventures they discover influences and remnants of the Weimar Republic, WWII, the Bowie years, and punk.

Только они сели погреться у костра под мостом, как с мотоцикла пожилой рокерши сорвался попугай и зацепился за самый краешек. Так спасли они и упавшего попугая по кличке Эмо, решив сделать из него жаркое. Но Эмо оказался хитрецом. Он сказал, что дал слово научиться летать и показаться перед смертью своей мамочке. К тому же он обещал найти собачкам сухое жилье и привел к той самой рокерше. Мисс Лили оказалась очень доброй женщиной, а услышав рассказ о спасении Эмо, сразу впустила всех в свой "дом животных", старинный, большой особняк. Зверюшек там действительно было много, и все играли на музыкальных инструментах не хуже другого ансамбля.

Musician and artist Nina Hagen was perhaps the most notable figure to come out of the German punk scene, and this documentary offers a look at her life, her work and her friends and collaborators. Along with interview footage with Hagen and her family, director Peter Sempel visits Lemmy from Motorhead, director Wim Wenders, Dee Dee Ramone and George S. Clinton as they discuss their flamboyantly creative friend. Nina Hagen = Punk + Glory was shown in the Panorama series at the 1999 Berlin Film Festival.
