На островном государстве Окантрос начинаются народные волнения после убийства премьер-министра страны. В это время тут оказывается Мартин Катруп - специалист из ГДР, получивший заказ на монтаж оборудования для типографии. Через некоторое время двое его коллег исчезают без следа, и он пускается на их поиски, сам при этом оказавшись в смертельной опасности.

Five-year-old Peter and his older brother Hans drop the Christmas present for their parents in the middle of the road and it gets flattened by a car. Deeply distressed, they go to a Christmas fair and buy a lottery ticket with their remaining money. To their delight, they win a washing machine! Peter is especially excited when Santa Claus shows up and promises to transport the machine for him, but the old man instead vanishes with the boys' gift. Hans is convinced that Peter has been conned and chases after the fleeing Santa. But Peter simply cannot believe that Santa Claus could be anything other than kind and helpful.

Ewald Honig can't break his bad habit. Hardly has he crossed over into the GDR when the strapping, well-built man in his late fifties once again starts courting ladies with fraudulent intentions. His daughter Ina, burdened with the same genes, specializes in married men in their prime. Two criminologists are on the Honigs' trail, but they soon have enough to handle just dealing with each other. Meanwhile, Honig and his daughter have left their wayward path of their own accord.

Was it an act of sabotage or willful negligence? The non-party engineer Heinz Solter is suddenly arrested and accused of approving a defective pipeline that caused a half million loss to his company. GDR border guard Gunter Rist is a young man from humble homes. During a swimming competition he meets Penny, a professor’s daughter from a good family, and they fall in love. However, their different social backgrounds get in the way of their happiness: Penny’s friends make it obvious that they are not willing to accept Gunter in their group. Although Penny takes Gunter’s side, she doubts if love can overcome all obstacles. In this state, she falls for the advances of her ex-boyfriend Bob and joins him on vacation. In the meantime, Gunter has an accident and is hospitalized. In the hospital, he meets the nurse Li who seems to be perfect for him.

В острой сатирической форме фильм высмеивает психоз, вызванный гонкой вооружений и пропагандой "красной опасности". Действие происходит во второй половине XX века в Западной Германии. Кино, радио, пресса - все вопят об атомной войне, об агрессивных планах русских. Военный психоз достигает такой степени, что очередная пропагандистская радиопередача, посвященная будущей третьей мировой войне, принимается за сообщение о реальной опасности.

По пьесе немецкого писателя А.Петермана о том, как в одном из театров ГДР под видом врача и актера орудовали секретные агенты, засланные из ФРГ, и как благодаря бдительности работников госбезопасности с огромным трудом удается разоблачить и обезвредить этих шпионов.

О том, как живущий в Западном Берлине Вальтер пытается втянуть в свои грязные дела своего брата - молодого шофера Руди Пранге, недавно выпущенного из тюрьмы, а тот, рискуя жизнью, поймал Вальтера на месте преступлений и сдал в руки полиции.
