Сознание героя, то и дело декламирующего манифесты Арто и Годара, постепенно распадается, а его тень обретает самостоятельное существование. Определить, где «настоящий» Джакобе, а где его копия, становится всё сложнее. Происходящее на экране начинает напоминать стандартную постановку театра жестокости.
