The film tries to make sense of the role of women in 1970s Estonia. The activities of men and women in different spheres of life are compared, the woman as a mother, caregiver and worker is examined, as well as the woman's aspirations for beauty and goodness.

Sailing to South America, the sailing ship "Fortuna" gets stuck in a calm in the middle of the Atlantic. Heat and thirst drive the team crazy, knives are already flashing and the wind is being conjured in the darkness of the night. Captain Kihnu Jõnn has to tame desperate men and trade with heavenly forces in order to bring the ship's crew to the destination port, who want to leave him there.

Молодой рыбак Танель (Юозас Будрайтис) полюбил Саале (Герлинда Копельман) - девушку, которая окружающим кажется немного странной. Она очень замкнута, неразговорчива и всегда ходит во всём чёрном. Танелю приходится упорно бороться на свою любовь. Он станет своеобразным связующим мостиком между Саале и окружающим миром. Искренность и понимание чувств девушки, вера в сострадание и сочувствие со стороны Танеля помогают Саале преодолевать догмы духовного одиночества...Фильм рассказывает том, что человек не может жить без любви и в одиночестве. After a stormy night on the sea, a group of Estonian fishermen end up in a small coastal Finnish town. As they await the Soviet authorities to take them back home, some of the fishermen contemplate leaving their former lives in a Soviet era Estonia behind.
