A short film made for BBC2, it features insight into the inspiration that Christ Church, Spitalfields gave the composer/performer, John Harle, in the composition of the piece 'Terror and Magnificence'. Writer Iain Sinclair and Professor of Architecture Keith Critchlow contribute with fascinating detail about the structure of the building, the neighbourhood and the overwhelming presence of this huge-scale Hawksmoor church, built after The Great Fire of London.

Deeply mentally unbalanced drifter Eunice roams grim northern Britain committing psychosexual serial murders of both men and women while ostensibly searching for an unknown woman named Judith. She spares the life of lonely but kind-hearted gas station cashier Miriam, who abandons her dismal life to follow her damaged new lover. While attempting to hide the evidence of her multiple crimes, Miriam tries to understand Eunice's bizarre quest.

Ute Lemper sings a collection of art songs by Michael Nyman based on texts by Paul Celan, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, William Shakespeare and Arthur Rimbaud. It was filmed at the Musikhalle, Hamburg, 4 February 1992.
