События, о которых идёт речь в телефильме, разворачиваются в начале прошлого века, когда в России революция уже произошла, а в буржуазной Латвии она только начиналась. Перед членами простой крестьянской семьи Зитаров был сложный выбор: идти с революционерами или смириться с порядками буржуазной республики.
