Two somewhat crazy friends Milan (Milan Lasica) and Julo (Július Satinský) resolve to have a peaceful holiday in an old guard house that Julo has bought from his uncle. But in the early hours of the very first morning they are woken up by the loud sound of a trumpet. It is the severe supervisor of a nearby recreation center forcing the children out of their beds and out to exercise drill. To protect themselves from the children, Milan and Julo put up signs saying "private property". The first to disturb their privacy is the supervisor's little granddaughter Miluska, who uses their shed as her gingerbread house. The children in the camp are disgruntled, the supervisor's program bores them, and so they make up all sorts of other things to do.

Tóna Bohácek (Pavel Landovský) has been a great worry to his mother, Mrs Bohácková (Stella Zázvorková). All his friends equal in age are already married and some of them even have children - only Tóna still has nothing. Mother Bohácková thus publishes an ad in the Lonely Hearts column on behalf of her son. From among the girls who responded, she picks out Janicka, a girl from the neighboring village, and then forces Tóna to go to have a look at her and bring her home. The date of the two young people, however, does not turn out well due to the embarrassment on both sides, and Tóna returns home drowning in the feeling of ridiculousness. On the way, he picks up hitchhiker Kveta (Regina Rázlová) from Prague. Only then, he realizes that the mother with her festive dinner is waiting for him and Janicka at home and thus asks Kveta to substitute for the girl from the ad.

An artist's studio is descended upon by a group of retired men and a young mother who agree to model in the nude for money. Comedy ensues as the students and the local bureaucracy react to the models, all in need of extra money. Several running gags border on slapstick as the officials and the students don't know what to do with the nude models.

В основе сюжета лежат подлинные события, имевшие место в период нападения гитлеровцев на Чехословакию, когда одно из подразделений чешской армии, дислоцированное в небольшом пограничном городке, дало серьёзный отпор вооружённым до зубов фашистам. …Середина марта 1939 года. Немцы угрожают Чехословацкой республике оккупацией. Капитан Рихтер с нетерпением ожидает приказов из штаба и, обеспокоенный бурно развивающимися событиями, серьёзно задумывается над дальнейшей судьбой доверенного ему подразделения. Решительный момент наступает в ночь с 14 на 15 марта. В то время, когда немецко-фашистские войска приближаются к границам республики, чешское радио призывает все войсковые подразделения и части сложить оружие. Но чувства долга и собственного достоинства не позволяют капитану Рихтеру выполнить этот приказ.

Хотя молодой специалист по этнографии Павел слишком занят своими научными изысканиями, чиновник чехословацкого союза молодёжи Алёна убеждает его возглавить любительский фольклорный ансамбль, который вскоре станет известным на международных молодёжных форумах. Мы встречаемся с молодыми героями этого фильма на первом Всемирном фестивале молодежи в 1947 году. Радостная атмосфера первой встречи молодежи мира вдохновляет их на организацию хореографической группы и хора. На второй Всемирный фестиваль в Будапешт они приезжают уже сплоченным коллективом. Наконец, мы попадем в Берлин, который принял эстафету праздника молодёжи мира в 1951 году.
