Главные герои этого фильма с виду благополучная японская семья. Но не всё ладится в этом семействе. Сугина, дочь Ёсико от первого брака, в тайне от матери бросает школу. Отчим Нариюки неожиданно уходит с работы. Ёсико, которая уверена, что жизнь держится только на работе мужа в компании, чувствует, что её мир начинает рушиться. Нариюки не может найти новую работу и тогда решает основать свою собственную компанию по оказанию разных услуг. Дела постепенно выправляются, но не выдерживает жена Ёсико. Устав от постоянного чувства стыда перед соседями, она уходит из дому. Семейное дело рушится и Сугина возвращается в школу, где так ничего и не изменилось...
Obayashi’s take on the famous Kosuke Kindaichi series, made popular partly thanks to the numerous movie-adaptions by Kon Ichikawa, the most known being The Inugami Family. Kosuke Kindaichi is the most famous detective in Japan. Kindaichi gets a new case to figure out who has beheaded a valuable statue and made off with its head.
“Get them all – girls, school credits, money – without an effort!" These are the rumors that freshman Hachirota Kawachi heard about the pep squad; his reasons for instant enrollment. Hachirota may fall a few screws short of a hardware store, but when it comes to yakuza ties, he has plenty. He is the direct descendant and heir to the notorious Akushin-kai gang. Although this was enough information to keep the pep squad seniors quiet, it’s not quite enough for Aota.
