Elín Methúsalemsdóttir and her family, from the old farm Bustarfell, take us through the history of Icelandic food traditions, from the settlement period to the present day. In the beginning, Icelandic cooking was characterized by scarcity, and Icelanders had to be extremely resourceful with the little that nature provided. Now, however, the Icelandic kitchen exists in the modern world, influenced by immigration, food tourism, and global trends in farming and cuisine.

When the Icelandic banks collapsed in the autum of 2008, taking most of the economy down with them, Ari Alexander took his camera and started to film what was happening in this tiny but relatively stable and affluent society. He filmed the ever-larger protests that in the end led to the downfall of the government. He took interviews with people shocked and confused by what was going on around them. He went to conferences and seminars where scholars tired to work out what had happened and what should happen next. He followed the endless debates and negotiations around the Icesave-accounts set up by Icelandic banks abroad. Every day brought fresh news of the complicated and often illegal deals made by financiers and bankers in the years leading up to the collapse.

The tiny village of Flateyri in North West Iceland is a community in crisis. The young people have moved away, the fish factory and the recording studio have been sold to make holiday homes, and one third of its residents are now Polish people who came only for the work. Nestled inside the West Fjords, this quaint outpost is perched upon a narrow finger of land which juts out into Önundarfjörður, situated well within striking distance to the fertile fishing grounds that ultimately gave rise to this settlement.

The documentary is a portrait of concept artist Kitty Von Sometime and her journey as she creates the Weird Girls Project. The Weird Girls - “an extraordinary art event for ordinary girls” - is a one day performance, but actresses are not allowed. From it’s conception seven years ago by Kitty Von Sometime, The Weird Girls Project has quickly become a national phenomenon in Iceland and every episode is covered by the national TV and print media. Between a pop event and feminist activism, performance art and a goliardic action, the project gives voice and space to woman to freely express themselves in a fabulous and unique carnival.

The summer of 2004 two engineer from Seyðisfjörður found a three-blade broach and an oval broach high up in the mountains of East Fjords in Iceland. Archaeologists arrived on the scene under the direction of Sigurd Bergsteinsson. They discover remains of a Viking woman, some jewelry and over 500 pearls. Who was this woman? What was she doing in the mountains, all by herself? The finding was unique, never before have so many artifacts from a Viking woman been found in an open country. The film is produced in collaboration with the National Museum of Iceland and The Archaeological Heritage Agency of Iceland.
