Good-looking Edita Beningerová (Jana Brejchová) arrives at a chemical factory in the North Bohemian town of Ústí nad Labem together with her young assistant Nada (Zlata Adamovská). She is hoping that her ex-husband, outstanding practical chemical engineer Vik Panc (Eduard Cupák), will help her conduct an experiment to validate her proposed theoretical method of isolating cholesterol from lanolin. The success of Edita's invention is crucial for her career at the Prague Institute of Chemistry. Vik's roommate from his hostel Bréta (Ivan Vyskocil) is thrilled. He will finally meet the mysterious and fascinating Edita about whom he has learned so much from Vik.

The film is a metaphor for the Cold War. It depicts two neighbouring nations: peace loving Fortuna and the not so peaceful land of the Steel City.

A West German businessman Friedrich Schmidt is arriving to Czechoslovakia with private mission and mission for Intelligence service. He wants to settle the old event from the time of the Second World War when he as a student of the Czech grammar school in the town of Kostelec took part at the denunciation of his schoolmate Pavel Richter. Pavel was during the period of Nazi terror following the assassination of Acting Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia Heydrich executed. Schmidt has also to enter into relations with persons suitable for cooperation with the West Intelligence service. Schmidt - earlier, before the German occupation Smíd - meets the schoolmates and endeavors to avert suspicion that arose already at the time of the tragic event.

The late summer of 1918. Paul, Willi and Heinrich from an age-old German town are good friends, although there is a great deal that divides them. Heinrich comes from an officer's family with an army tradition and is preparing to enter cadet college. Paul's father and grandfather are workers, and Willi, left to depend on himself, works as a hotel messenger. The last year of the war is hard for everyone, but while Paul and Willi know their own minds and do not hesitate to help the war fugitives Tony and Sepp, for Heinrich everything is more complicated.

Действие начинается в июле 2163 года, когда экипаж из сорока человек корабля «Икар» отправляется в сторону планет звезды Альфа Центавра. Такому большому человеческому коллективу в замкнутом пространстве корабля угрожают непредвиденные психологические конфликты. Через четыре месяца начинается проявление отчётливой усталости и даже страха перед пустотой космоса. Но вдруг опасность мобилизует всех: на пути «Икара» появляется летающий объект.

По одноимённой пьесе Петера Карваша. Декабрь 1944 года. Молодой партизан Дюрко Кубиш бежит из фашистского плена и прячется в доме родителей, которые сотрудничают с оккупантами. Родные Дюрко знают, что если его обнаружат в их доме, то будет расстреляна вся семья. Но они также надеются, что в случае разгрома фашистов Дюрко вспомнит об оказанной ему помощи. Однако страх перед фашистами побеждает, и родственники решают выдать его. Мать, желая спасти сына от смерти, рассказывает о нём священнику и просит помощи. Но священник выдаёт Дюрко фашистам, и его арестовывают, когда вся семья отправилась в церковь на мессу.
