50-летний официант из затрапезного бистро только и видит в жизни, что нагоняи от хамоватых посетителей да козни потрепанной любовницы, обожающей приходить в его заведение и требовать к себе особого внимания в самый разгар дня. Тогда официант идет к сценаристу, который, оказывается, пишет ситком из его жизни, и просит заменить любовницу на что-нибудь поприличнее и дать возможность хотя бы пару раз ответить самому наглому клиенту. Сценарист соглашается — и вскоре у его дверей выстраивается целая очередь из обездоленных персонажей.

March 11th, 2002. John R. takes the head of security and 17 others hostage in Amsterdam biggest skyscraper. John R. demands to speak with the Philips head of Sound&Vision. His goal is to warn people about a large-scale fraud, aimed at brainwashing consumers by means of widescreen TV sets. In the film, we find out about John's preliminary frustrations, his bizarre encounter with Philips head of Sound&Vision Gerard Wesselinck, their impossible friendship, rivalry and John's armed attempt to force the executive to do penance in public.

For all Frits, a farmer's son, knows, his mother died when giving birth to him. He and his father make up a strong team. In the literal and figurative sense, because his father not only teaches him to milk the cows and hunt, he is also the coach of his soccer team. The happy tide turns when the boy turns eighteen and is scouted as a promising soccer talent. Suddenly, Frits's future is no longer with his father on the farm, but on the green grass of the Nijmegen soccer club NEC. His son's splendid soccer career may be the crowning glory of the farmer's hard work, but he is afraid he will also lose his only child. Desperate, he reveals the lie with which he raised his son. Frits is bewildered and makes a dramatic decision.
