Mathilde, an 18-year-old dancer from Tromsø has spent all her summers in a meditative environment in Bø i Vesterålen, where everything just falls into place. While performing out in the fields, she shares her thoughts about who she is and who she wants to become.

The concern for the future of an unborn child, longing for home and a traditional way of life in the world of possibilities provided by capitalism form the foundation of the film. Arctic Utopias probes the individual’s emotional spectrum in a rapidly changing environment.
