Завораживающая режиссура Хоукса и уверенная, эмоциональная работа всех актеров, особенно Гарфилда и Кэри, полностью захватывают внимание зрителя. Сейчас, к сожалению, картина начинает устаревать, но сценарий Николса достаточно силен, а диалоги наполнены смыслом и достоверны. Для съемок использовалась настоящая «Летающая крепость», позже упавшая в Тихий океан и утерянная, а интерьерные съемки велись в модели стоимостью 40 тыс. долларов. Хоукс сам был ветераном военно-воздушных сил, его собственный опыт и уважение к военной авиации очевидны в каждой сцене.
