Blood, Sweat and Tears is a story about the life of Andre Hazes, a Dutch popular singer. It shows three crucial phases in the life of Hazes: his youth (in the 1960s), his breakthrough (1980s) and the last year of his life (early 2000s).

Polish Ewa works as an Au-pair in a small town in Holland. A sensitive girl, she finds it difficult to live up to her host-parents' clichéd expectations. When a rape takes place in town, Ewa believes to suspect the rapist. Having no one to share this knowledge with, it furthers her alienation from the people around her, resulting in her being send back home.

When Molly, the 21 year-old sister of Maarten, departs the family home, she leaves her older brother with empty nest syndrome. But it also opens up new opportunities for him, such as the possibility to explore his love for Arthur, a closet gay. After a group of teenagers discover one of their friends lying dead on a river bank on one of the hottest days of summer, a story of jealousy, insecurity and peer pressure gradually unfolds. Group leader Caesar is able to magnify - out of all proportion - the small grievances that each of Jessie's friends bear towards her and transforms them into a general and pervasive hatred that leads ultimately to her horrible, senseless killing.
