Молодой парень Никола Зарбо, сын бедного крестьянина, едет из Пальма-ди-Монтекьяро, что на Сицилии, на заработки в Вольфсбург, в Германию. Он работает на заводе «Фольксваген», влюбляется в немецкую девушку Бригитту, тоскует о доме и семье.

Anna is a Jewish girl in Germany. When the Nazis come to power in the 1930s, her family has to flee the country without being able to bring any of their belongings. Even young Anna's pink toy rabbit has been confiscated along with the family's other possessions. Initially the family lives in Switzerland, but even here they come to feel the antisemitism. And when money becomes scarce, and Anna's father can't find work as a journalist and Jew, they move on to France, where they are no long submitted to racial discrimination, but struggle financially. Eventually the entire family manages to go to England.

У мальчика Курта беда – он не может ходить. А рядом, в предместье небольшого Вестфальского городка, живёт и здравствует компания «Крокодилов». Стать в ней своим непросто – надо как минимум забраться на крышу заброшенной фабрики… Но вот какая штука: с крыши так просто соскользнуть, а внизу целых три этажа! Благодаря Курту, вовремя заметившему случившееся и позвонившему «911», незадачливый кандидат в «Крокодилы» остаётся жив и невредим и в качестве благодарности предлагает своему спасителю тоже вступить в весёлую компанию. Но, оказывается, не всё так просто и хорошо…

A rock band moves into a farmhouse in a little village. They are eyed suspiciously by the citizens of the village.

Every day they clean the dirty windows of their cars from the filthy film that has formed overnight. Measuring stations call a low smog warning. But one day a soccer player collapses on the pitch with breathlessness.
