Pavel Landovský (September 11, 1936 – October 10, 2014) was a Czech actor, playwright and director. He was a prominent dissident under the communist regime of former Czechoslovakia.
Landovský was born in Německý Brod and studied at the Faculty of Theatre in Prague and then played in regional theaters in Teplice, Šumperk, Klatovy and Pardubice. The first play that he wrote, Hodinový hoteliér, premiered at the Činoherní theater on 11 May 1969. In 1971 the communist regime banned him from film and television. Constantly harassed by the secret police (Státní bezpečnost), during the winter of 1978-79, Landovský was accosted at night by an agent and severely beaten and had his leg broken. Feeling compelled to leave for his safety, when was offered a position in the ensemble of the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria, he accepted.
After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, he was able to return to Prague in January 1990. There he was able to act again, playing one of the lead characters in the play Audience at club Činoherní - a play written by his friend Václav Havel 16 years earlier, and who had recently been elected president of then Czechoslovakia. The play was directed by Jiří Menzel.
He died on October 10, 2014 from a heart attack in Kytín, aged 78.
MURDEROUS TALES is a special effect animated feature film combining live actors with 3D/2D animation, puppets and back projection. It contains three stories: Antonio Cacto, Lighthouse and The Big Man, plus three ultra-short films called Charge the Dragon. Each episode uses different production technology and is in a different genre, but both their form and their content are related. All the episodes are about double standards and the topics of heroism and death. Something very small meets something very big (a tiny knight meets a huge dragon, an old Mexican goblin meets a man, a tiny Professor meets real-life cows, two mobsters meet the Big Man). All these meetings result in the heroic death of the small principal characters. Each script sees heroism and death differently.

Taking a cue from Franz Kafka's "Letter to My Father," this highly personal film follows Czech director Jan Nemec as he attempts to engage in a dialogue with his deceased mother. While alive, Nemec's mother had a troubled relationship with her son; this rumination seems to be Nemec's public platform for coming to terms with unresolved familial issues. The director embellishes his film by linking personal events with 20th century history.

Vladimír Michálek chose an unconventional adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel for his feature debut. Artistically reminiscent of the classic films of Karel Zeman, the director reinterpreted this dark story of a man vainly seeking a place in a rigidly ordered society by changing the desperate conclusion into a happy end. The film provided Czech comedian Jirí Lábus with a new kind of role: that of the despotic uncle of a main hero Karel Rossman (Martin Dejdar).

Beleaguered by choppy editing and potholes in the script, this story is about the bond that develops between an aging, former railroad worker living in an abandoned theater and Willie, the wayward, alcoholic architect he shelters (Elliot Gould). The flaws in the script and story development, and the architect's exaggerated character traits, work against the concept of a growing friendship between the two men and leave the main thrust of the film in limbo. A subplot has a gang of street thugs chasing Willie all over the city in order to retrieve some photos of a murder he accidentally recorded. At the same time, Willie is trying to reconcile with his son, left in the care of his neglected wife. ...
