A small border town in the south of Slovakia is surprised by the sudden arrival of respected builder Mr. Hampl and his young wife Nada. She catches the eye of an equally young local teacher, Daniel, who is still recovering from his military experience in The Second World War. At first, Nada tries to resist Daniel's charm but her decision is complicated by the scent of flowering agave in the hot summer air. When the agave after 30 years of sleep finally blooms, Nada's primary decision not to give in is permanently void... A simple love story on the surface opens into to a deep, psychological study set in the hot summer of 1947. The Second World War has just ended and the Communist coup is waiting in the wings to wipe nearly a whole generation of Slovak intelligentsia from the history.

Живущий с отцом 30-летний мужчина оказывается в жизненном тупике. Он бросает работу и заводит отношения с замужней женщиной. Все это выводит из себя его отца, и он предлагает продать старый сельский домик дедушки, чтобы сын мог купить собственное жильё. Приехав в деревню, молодой человек понимает, что этот заброшенный неухоженный сад - непростое и волшебное место, полное сюрпризов и загадок. Увлёкшись странными происшествиями в саду, он забывает о своих проблемах и уже не хочет возвращаться в город.

Главному герою Томасу около сорока, и он хочет изменить свою жизнь. В этом ему активно «помогает» молодая англичанка, зовущая его жить за границу. Но оказывается, не так-то просто это сделать, если у тебя уже почти взрослый сын, немолодые родители, да еще бывшая, взбалмошная и все-таки дорогая жена…

Двадцатилетний Шимон оставляет родительский дом и отправляется в путешествие, чтобы познать самого себя. Он встречает Виктора и Марию, вовлекающих его в свои сложные отношения на грани нежности и жестокости. Узнавая больше об их прошлом, Шимон испытывает все большее влияние странного образа жизни этой семьи.

This film is a psychological study of a woman who chooses solitude as an escape from the duplicity and emotional barrenness of the men around her.

A story of a family that after WWII moved to the south of Slovakia and acquired a prosperous butcher business left behind by a Hungarian emigrant. From the previous owner, the family also inherited a self-assured, greedy assistant who does not like to observe any firm moral principles. He assists the family in gaining wealth but in the long run, he causes the family's moral dissolution. In his most successful feature film, director Zoro Záhon combined a complex drama with excellent acting performances, especially that of Hungarian actor Gábor Koncz in the lead role.
