В первой части исторического повествования 13-летняя Жанна покидает отчий дом в деревеньке Домреми, решаясь на этот шаг после того, как ею был услышан голос святой Екатерины Александрийской и архангела Михаила. Через какое-то время эти же голоса подсказали девушке, что ей необходимо снять осаду с Орлеана, изгнать захватчиков из королевства и возвести на трон Дофина. Но перед этим она приезжает в резиденцию Дофина и рассказывает ему, что она послана небом для свержения английского господства и просит у него войска, чтобы снять осаду с Орлеана. Дофин, поверив её словам, назначает Жанну командующей войск...
