Ему помогают укрыться в шахтёрском посёлке Силезии вдова шахтёра Каролькова и её дочь Эльжбета. Они прячут Роберта сначала у себя дома, затем вместе с Эльжбетой Роберт спускается в шахту. Гестаповцы, не найдя Роберта в посёлке, начинают поиски в шахте. В перестрелке Роберт убивает гестаповца. Несмотря на преследования, Роберту и Эльжбете с помощью шахтёров удаётся выбраться на свободу.
