В красном районе Вены Алекс работает шофером у владельца борделя, он ведет тайный роман с одной из проституток Тамарой. Безвыходность ситуации приводит к тому, что Алекс решает ограбить банк… В австрийской сельской местности, Роберт и Сюзанна построили уютный дом и пытаются построить семью. Он работает полицейским в селе, она работает в местном продуктовом магазине и по воскресеньям берет своего престарелого, овдовевшего соседа в церковь… Что может пойти не так?

Фильм состоит из трех новелл об ужасах семейной жизни, разворачивающихся в декорациях одной из многоэтажек в венском пригороде. Герои, состоящие в счастливом, казалось бы, браке, беззастенчиво изменяют друг другу, превращая свою жизнь в ад.

Assistant Pastor Josef Mohr arrived in Oberndorf in 1818. In a time of political upheaval and economic hardship he writes a Christmas carol together with the teacher Franz Gruber. The main roles in Franz Xaver Bogners fictive history of the most famous Christmas song in the world "Das ewige Lied" play Tobias Moretti, Heio von Stetten and Erwin Steinhauer.

On the Schiermoser farm tense expectation prevails. The 'Urban', the Schaubleins, surprisingly announced their arrival. In the past, they were welcome as generous summer visitors. But now the shortage years of the First World War prevail. And the farmer's wife suspects lazy parasites in the townsfolk. The city family is indeed facing ruin. Especially since the defiant daughter Rosalie has just knocked out a promising money marriage without regard to scandal. The Rosalie is attracted to the Schiermoser heir Franz. His mother already drives the thought of a 'Madame Bäurin' to madness. Everyone experiences a turbulent time of upheaval. The end of the First World War will shake the social fronts as well as the new machine age.

The main characters of the story are Pauli, a teacher's son, and Sepp, the son of a sawmill owner. They get to know each other while serving as altar boys, become friends and decide to form their own gang with themselves as leaders. Their first major objective will be a battle against a notorious gang from the neighboring village . . .

Cinematographer turned director (Xaver Schwarzenberger) has filmed a small, wintry story of epic human proportions. A young doctor (Hanno Poeschi) exiles himself to a remote Austrian village when he accidentally causes a death. Once at the village, winter sets in and against that harsh and poetic backdrop a rabies epidemic sweeps through the population. The doctor convinces people he is a biologist but then he treats someone bitten and gives his real profession away. As the epidemic raises questions of life and death, the doctor's mind is brought back to the death that caused his exile and he considers suicide for awhile. The same issues come up again when an enraged villager goes on a killing spree and in turn, is hunted by the citizens. Faced with the prevalence of death all around him, the doctor starts to gain some perspective on the personal experience that brought him here in the first place.

Judit is up to her neck in art studies and the elitist art community but chucks it all to pursue a successful career as a billiard professional -- not exactly a likely alternative in real life, but certainly more lucrative. Just as she is finally at the apex of her chosen second field, Judit encounters male jealously and/or aggression in the form of intentional snubs from this different class of snobs, or in the worse instances, rape. Director Kitty Kino portrays many of the male figures in this film as weak, or drunk, or simply offensive, and because of the emphasis on those traits, the film will raise objections from some viewers. On the other hand, many women might see this film and feel that at least it brings up the difficulties women can face in getting ahead in a male-dominated arena, instead of side-stepping or ignoring the role of male prejudice.
