Martin Kampmann was scheduled to fight Rich Franklin, but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Yushin Okami replaced Kampmann in the main event.

UFC 66's main event was a championship fight with two of the UFC's biggest light heavyweight stars, Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell defending his title against former champion Tito Ortiz. The co-main event saw Forrest Griffin take on 'The Dean Of Mean' Keith Jardine.

The main event was a hyped up fight between two men who were not contenders. The joke of fight was only held because their 2nd encounter was thought to have been stopped early by the ref. However, this event did set viewing records and sold out very fast.

The Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on June 24, 2006. Featured were the finals from The Ultimate Fighter 3 in both the Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions as well as a main event between Kenny Florian and Sam Stout. During the event Randy Couture was inducted in to the UFC Hall of Fame and the return of Jens Pulver was announced.
