A living legend of funk and soul jazz, the saxophonist and singer Maceo Parker has been one of the most respected and beloved American musicians in Jazz San Javier since its historic first concert at our festival on July 28, 2001, in its fourth. He returned to the stage of Jazz San Javier in 2003 in the sixth edition and his return was also announced last year, but was thwarted by last minute inconveniences. There is, therefore, much desire to receive again in San Javier this funk and soul giant, who was an essential part of the James Brown band, and also of Parliament Funkadelic, the George Clinton group, before leading his own band, which today is unanimously considered “The best funk band on the planet.” A long awaited return of a legendary musician who is the living essence of funk.
James Brown changed the face of American music forever. Abandoned by his parents at an early age, James Brown was a self-made man who became one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, not just through his music, but also as a social activist. Charting his journey from rhythm and blues to funk, MR. DYNAMITE: THE RISE OF JAMES BROWN features rare and previously unseen footage, photographs and interviews, chronicling the musical ascension of “the hardest working man in show business,” from his first hit, “Please, Please, Please,” in 1956, to his iconic performances at the Apollo Theater, the T.A.M.I. Show, the Paris Olympia and more.
