Действие происходит в послевоенной Латвии. В одном из городков действует банда Франциска. Чекистам предстоит не только обезвредить центр банды, но и раскрыть все ее связи, выявить, кто же прячется в лесах. Завоевать доверие Франциска и выполнить эту миссию поручается молодому чекисту Юрису Вилксу.
