Sinopsis
En un hospital de la ciudad de Bombay nacen dos bebés: Saleem y Shiva. Su nacimiento coincide con el 15 de agosto de 1947, el mismo día en el que la India consigue su independencia de Inglaterra. Nacer en ese gran momento concede a los hermanos poderes sobrenaturales como el de la telepatía o el de un agudísimo olfato. Ambos son intercambiados por accidente al nacer y sus vidas se convertirán en esclavas de su contexto. La India vivía entonces un momento de ensueño pintado con la esperanza de avanzar y convertirse en un país rico y desarrollado en todos los sentidos y esto mismo les ocurre a los hermanos a quienes, por estar dotados con el don de los poderes mágicos, se les atribuye un futuro mejor del que finalmente protagonizan. Ambos terminarán tan pobres y atrasados como la cultura y el país en el que nacen. Una historia de poderes mágicos, amor oculto y secretos de familia que se desarrolla en medio de una convulsa situación política del país oriental.
En la isla griega de Rodas se producen los encuentros entre un grupo de británicos enamorados del paraje. Entre ellos figuran una fotógrafa, su exmarido, su hija y un crítico de arte amigo de la familia.
La historia comienza un jueves, cuando Ana (Paola Giannini) y Fenando (Francisco Pérez-Bannen), una pareja a punto de separarse deciden emprender un viaje de vacaciones que habían planeado desde hacía tiempo, junto a sus dos hijos. Se dirigen hacia el norte de Chile, sin embargo, el destino no está del todo claro: mientras que los pequeños Lucía (Santi Ahumada) y Manuel (Emiliano Freifeld) quieren llegar a la playa, Fernando y Ana desean llegar hasta el lugar donde las cosas vuelvan estar bien y su relación pueda empezar de nuevo. Entre la soledad del paisaje y el reducido espacio de su automóvil, el largo trayecto significa el final y la despedida de la familia, su último viaje.
