Indiana, 1818. La luz de la luna cae a través de los densos bosques que rodean una cabaña, donde un niño de nueve años llamado Abraham Lincoln se arrodilla junto a la cama de su madre que sufre. En una carrera contrarreloj para conseguir los votos necesarios, Lincoln se enfrenta a la mayor crisis de conciencia de su vida.

El antiguo leñador de Kentucky es ya un abogado que empieza a destacar por su defensa de los derechos de los más humildes. Fue candidata al Óscar en 1939 por el mejor guión original.
