En el curso de la guerra civil que asola un país de América latina, en 1890, la hija del jefe de Estado es capturada durante un viaje en tren y retenida en el cuartel general de los revolucionarios.

Benavidez es un profesor de plástica, casado con una joven promesa de la pintura. Una noche discuten y el carga su valija y sale a buscar asilo a la casa de su psiquiatra, también coleccionista de arte. Al día siguiente descubre el secreto que oculta ese lugar: una residencia de artistas que participan de un tratamiento diseñado para ampliar su espectro creativo. Benavidez querrá volver a su hogar pero ya no le será posible, el Dr. tiene otros planes para él.
