Sinopsis
'Salt Mango Tree' explores certain systems at work in the current educational and social establishments and how aspirations are high to climb the haloed social ladder of the expected norm.
Una madre decide atender a las peticiones de sus dos hijos y los lleva a la remota granja de sus abuelos, en Pensilvania. Los niños, entusiasmados, empezarán a realizar una búsqueda intensiva por la casa. Sus abuelos, que en principio, parecen adorables, les establecen ciertas reglas que no pueden romper. Los niños, ingenuos, piensan que no pasará nada si se las saltan, hasta que descubran que la pareja está inmersa en algo realmente espeluznante y que en ocasiones, a veces es mejor no saber la verdad.

Ottaal (The Trap) is an adaptation of one of Anton Chekhov's timeless works, Vanka. A story of the 18th century, but one that has traveled the time and space to be retold in the present day at a small village in the South of India. Kuttappayi, a young boy, is miserable and desperate as he starts writing a letter to his grandfather from a place, dim and dark. Kuttappayi's recollections takes us to the picturesque locations of Kuttanad, where Kuttappayi and his grandpa, Valiyappachayi, are arriving with their ducks. The village is as pleasant as it can be even though what brings him there is the death of his dearest parents. With hope and freedom, he is about to start his life afresh among the village's letter-less postman, the nameless dog, the rich lad, Tinku and many more.
the film is about how a barber's life is turned upside down when a film unit comes to the village for a shoot, and the news spreads that superstar Ashok Raj (Mammootty) is the barber's childhood friend. The script also by Srinivasan is so layered that every frame has a comment to make about the world and every line of the dialogue, on the mores of the society. The craze for celebrities and the problems of leading a principled life are discussed without being preachy.

In a village named Ilavattam there lives a man by the name of Gopalakrishna Pillai. He is a man with diverse qualities. Basically he is a moneylender, but not the avaricious kind. He lends money at very low interest-rates but makes it a point to get his money back on the date agreed upon. The story takes a turn when a bank, named Grand Bank opens up in the village, offering to give out loans at very low interest. The manager of the bank is a young lady named Jayalakshmi. She has made her entry into the village with a very definite purpose. All this, plus the very different kind of bonding between Gopalakrishna Pillai and his mother, form the plot, which develops towards a very interesting climax.
