El periodista deportivo Raoul Duke y su abogado el doctor Gonzo van a Las Vegas para hacer un reportaje sobre una carrera de motos. Su descapotable rojo está equipado con todo tipo de fármacos estimulantes y un arsenal de hierbas dopantes. Esto les permitirá hacer un alucinado viaje, físico y mental, por la decadente América de los setenta.

Tras la repentina muerte de su padre, Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) tiene que hacerse cargo del negocio familiar situado en Northampton: una fábrica de zapatos convencionales, la "Price and Sons". Charlie advierte enseguida que el negocio no marcha bien y que sin nuevos pedidos irán a la bancarrota. Además, sus empleados son bastante escépticos respecto a su capacidad como jefe. Así las cosas, Charlie decide ir a Londres en busca de soluciones; allí va a parar, por casualidad, a un cabaret regentado por una tal Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor), en el que los travestis usan unas peculiares botas altas de plataforma. Charlie se da cuenta entonces de que tiene ante sí un auténtico filón por explotar en el mercado del calzado.

He quietly walks off the place and decides to leave Chennai. But a rude accident to Vidya puts the responsibility on Ajay's shoulders to get her back to health. He takes her to USA for a surgery. Meanwhile a flashback reveals that Ajay was a successful doctor in the United States and who led a happy life.
