En plena guerra civil española, la influencia del anarcosindicalismo lleva a Frederica Montseny al gobierno de la república. Ella lo acepta a regañadientes para evitar el auge del fascismo y deviene la primera mujer ministra de España y de Europa. Terminada la guerra, Montseny debe exiliarse a Francia, donde se enfrenta a un juicio de extradición que pone a prueba sus firmes convicciones. Si lo pierde, debe volver a la España franquista para ser ejecutada. Frederica debe decidir entonces entre ir en contra de sus convicciones o conservar la vida.
