Sabiendo que su dueño Andy, que ya no es un niño, se prepara para ir a la universidad, el vaquero Woody, el astronauta Buzz y el resto de sus amigos juguetes comienzan a preocuparse ante su incierto futuro. Efectivamente todos acaban en una guardería, donde por ejemplo la muñeca Barbie conocerá al guapo Ken. Esta reunión de nuestros amigos con otros nuevos juguetes no será sino el inicio de un montón de trepidantes y divertidas aventuras.

La historia se centra en las aventuras de un hombre que ve cómo su osito de peluche de la infancia adquiere vida debido a un deseo que formuló cuando era pequeño, convirtiéndose el peluche en un gandul deslenguado que alterará por completo su vida y pondrá en peligro su relación amorosa con su pareja, debido a su comportamiento totalmente salvaje y su conducta fuera de toda norma social.
