Sean Crawley es un pintor a tiempo parcial que un buen día topa con el mejor trabajo que podía soñar cuando el electricista borrachín Duke Wayne, le presenta al dueño de una constructora, Ray Matthews. Ray contrata a Sean para seguirle la pista a un molesto inspector del Ayuntamiento. Todo va bien hasta que un día Ray, borracho, le dice a Sean que le pagaría 13.000 dólares si se cargara al inspector. Para sorpresa de todos, Sean lo hace. El problema es que Ray no tiene intención de pagarle. Para acabar de estropearlo, Duke le dice que si habla, le aplastará como a una hormiga. Thirteen-year-old Tessa (Jessica White) faces more than the usual tribulations of adolescence. When bad times hit, she and her mother find themselves living on the streets. The injustice of poverty is emphasized by the fact that Tessa's school chums are the children of very wealthy parents, and the only way to fit in is by lying.
