'Al nacer el día' narra la historia de un profesor de música jubilado, Misha Brankov (interpretado por Mustafa Nadarevic), que descubre sus verdaderos orígenes en extrañas circunstancias. En el lugar donde se erigía un campo de concentración nazi, durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, localiza una caja de metal llena de documentos. Este objeto enterrado por un preso Isaac Weiss en el año 1941. Gracias a este descubrimiento, averiguará que sus verdaderos padres, los señores Weiss, le entregaron a sus amigos: la familia Brankov, justo antes de ser tomados presos por el régimen alemán. Dentro de la caja también hay una partitura musical inacabada, llamado 'Cuando amanece', compuesta por su propio padre.
