Film basado en la real y trágica historia acontecida con las dieciséis monjas carmelitas del convento de Compiègne en 1794, y recogida por el escritor francés Georges Bernanos en su obra teatral homónima, que a su vez se inspiró en la pieza “La última del cadalso” de la escritora Gertrud Von Le Fort.
