Disaster movies tend to inhabit the close-but-not-too-close realm of the ‘what if?’, but Quentin Reynaud’s taut drama evokes a reality that is painfully immediate, as the world combusts around us. Alex Lutz (recently seen as the son in Gaspar Noé’s Vortex) plays a man determined to escape with his elderly father (the ineffable André Dussollier) from a wildfire that is rapidly approaching their forested area of southern France. The pair know all the local roads, and the secret detours, but when they are caught in a dead end, they seem to be running out of possible exits. At once road movie, claustrophobic jeopardy thriller and portrait of a prickly but tender father-son relationship, this finely acted and executed film expertly lays on the heat.

Sandra es una joven que ha tenido que abandonar el sur de Francia para huir de su violento marido. Regresa a Boulogne-sur-Mer, la ciudad de su infancia que abandonó hace casi 15 años. Ella encuentra a su madre allí y un mundo que dejó atrás. Sin dinero, la contratan en una fábrica de conservas de pescado donde se hace amiga de dos trabajadoras.

La historia gira en torno a Laura, una chica de 22 años que se está buscando a sí misma. Después de finalizar con éxito sus estudios literarios, se alista en la marina francesa como oficial de comunicación. Se tiene que adaptar rápidamente y asimilar las reglas que rigen la institución. Pero Laura está decidida. Tiene que aprender. Seguir aprendiendo. Aprender a conocerse y a aceptarse. Encontrar su sitio.
