La historia se centra en Sosuke, un niño de 5 años, y su relación con una princesa pez que ansía convertirse en un ser humano. Libre adaptación de "La sirenita" que obtuvo muy buena acogida de la crítica en el Festival de Venecia 2008.
Tokio, 1943. El profesor Hyakken Uchida abandona su cátedra para dedicarse por completo a su carrera como escritor. Los desastres de la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945) hacen que pierda su casa y viva con su mujer en una barraca. Pero sus ex alumnos deciden construirle un nuevo hogar, al que se trasladará con su esposa. También se comprometen a celebrar cada cumpleaños del venerado maestro. A man and a little girl meet in a bicycle parking in Tokyo. The little girl says she wants to watch the sea, and their travel begins. The man does not intend to be a kidnapper – he asks the girl to phone her mother and tell her she's with him. During their trip they meet various people, but they always must continue on, lest the man be arrested.
