いしいひさいち原作による四コマ漫画をベースに、平凡な日本の家族像を様々なエピソードを織りまぜて、ユーモラスに描いた長篇アニメーション。監督・脚色は「平成狸合戦ぽんぽこ」の高畑勲。撮影を「もののけ姫」の奥井敦が担当している。声の出演に朝丘雪路の他、多彩な顔ぶれ。
