温泉おさな芸者 (1973)

主人公は、貧しさゆえに置屋に売られたひとりの少女。辛く厳しい日々の中で、全ての希望を見失ったとき、立派な身なりをした“会長"と呼ばれる、ひとりの紳士との運命の出会いが訪れる。「もう一度、あの人に会いたい…」儚い願いを胸に、少女は美しく変貌を遂げ、ミステリアスな輝きを放つ瞳と天性の聡明さによって、やがて花街一の芸者“さゆり"となる。そして、ついに芸者として会長と再会することになるが、その先には過酷な運命と激動の時代が待ちうけていた…。

昭和11年。料亭の女中定は店の主人に心惹かれ、情事を重ねるようになる。その情事が男の妻に知れてしまい、二人は駆け落ちを決行する。快楽におぼれる日々を重ねるうちに定は男を永遠に手放したくないと思うようになり、ついには男を自分だけのものにするため首を絞めて殺害し、さらには男の陰部を切り取ってしまうのだった。

盲目のやくざ・市がある宿場町に到着した。その町はやくざの銀蔵一家に支配され、人々は苦しい生活を強いられていた。ここで市はおうめの家に厄介になる。賭場にて遊び人でおうめの甥の新吉と出会い、幼少時に盗賊に両親を殺害され、その親の仇を探して旅をしている芸者の姉妹と出会う。脱藩して職を失った浪人もこの町にたどりつき、剣術の腕を買われて銀蔵一家の用心棒を務める。とある飯屋で市と浪人は出会い、互いに相手の剣術の凄さを見抜くのだった。

苛酪な拷問や刑罰が行なわれていた徳川時代。一人の女が墓を掘り起し、男の腹を引裂いて鍵をつかみだした。「これで女に戻れる」と呟きながら、その女は数日前の出来ごとを思い浮べていた。両親に先立たれた由美は、残された借金返済のため、与力鮫島の口ききで大黒屋に奉公した。しかし、そこは刺青女がたむろする異様な売春宿だった。女主人のお竜は、異常な女で由美の体にひかれていた。そして、由美の肌に惚れこんで墨を入れる刺青師彫秀をねたみ、昼夜となく由美を愛撫した。ある日、縛られた由美が弦造に襲われ貞操を奪われた。しかし事はすぐ発覚、お竜は由美を独占するため、貞操帯をはめてしまった。それから、お竜の口ききで彫辰が墨を入れはじめた。やがて、将軍上覧の刺青競演会が開かれ、由美の肌で競いあった彫辰の“水門破り”と彫秀の“吉祥天女”は甲乙つけがたく引分けとなった。それからというもの各藩の重役たちが、大黒屋を訪れるようになった。由美が弦造の子を妊んだ事に気づいたのはそんな折、子供産みたさに貞操帯の鍵を呑みこんで殺れた弦造の墓を掘り起したのだった。しかし、由美はすぐさま捕われ、火責め刑に処せられた。刺青女の噂は異国人の間にもひろまり、墨を入れた女囚たちが続々と長崎へ送られた。鮫島が金儲けを企む領事と結託したのはそんな折だった。鮫島は江戸一の刺青師彫五郎を殺し、その罪を負わされた彫秀は島流しに処せられた。一方お竜は、生娘のお鈴に目をつけ、彫辰に墨を入れさせて、長崎へ送った。しかし、辱めを受けたお鈴は服毒、島破りをして長崎に来た彫秀に一部始終を話すと息をひきとった。復讐を誓った彫秀はクレイトンの娘を誘拐、無理やり墨を入れた。領事館で刺青競演会が開かれた時、彫秀作の“人間ハリ鼠が”登場して、場内は騒然となっこ。だが、その時会場に突然火の手が上り、彫秀に追いつめられたクレイトン、鮫島、彫辰たちは火に包まれた。そして、その場を逃れたお竜も追手に捕われ処刑された。

What is the life of a Geisha like once her beauty has faded and she has retired? Kin has saved her money, and has become a wealthy money-lender, spending her days cold-heartedly collecting debts. 大正元年、太田勝造は呂鶴と駆け落ちし娘の桃若をもうけるが、呂鶴は追っ手に殺害されてしまう。勝造は桃若を連れて高知の遊郭「陽暉楼」を訪れる。二十年後、桃若は陽暉楼の売れっ子になっていた。勝造は大阪に珠子という女を囲っていたが、珠子は呂鶴に瓜二つの桃若に激しく嫉妬、陽暉楼に身を売ろうとするが女将に断られてしまう。

大正時代。芸者の花清は、旦那の横井をめぐって同業の染八と相争っていたが、染八が横井の男児を生み落としたことからライバル対決に決着がつき、横井に捨てられることに。ある日、染八の家に乗り込んだ花清が赤ん坊を奪って逃げ出したところへ関東大震災が発生。そして時は流れて昭和10年代。花清は、今の旦那・小宮山のおかげで置屋の女将の座に収まり、染八から奪った子・正太郎をわが子として育てながら幸せに暮らしていた。

A professor, Komiya, and his bossy wife, Tokio, are to look after Setsuko, their high-spirited niece from Osaka. Despite being a minor, Setsuko is a liberated woman who does whatever she wants, including smoking. She even convinces Koyima to take her to a geisha house. When she gets rather tipsy, the professor calls Okada, one of his students, to take her home. The wife becomes suspicious of Setsuko when she sees Okada bringing her home.
